It seems like just yesterday we were toasting champagne and singing along to Auld Lang Syne. Now we look at the calendar and it’s the last (unofficial) week of Summer. The question I just have to ask is where did it go? I feel like I just planted my tomatoes and cleaned the grill. Now it’s almost time to put it all away for the cold, dark, depressing winter. Sure it’s cliche to say that time flies, but 2010 has really flown by if you ask me! Before you know it we’re gonna be complaining about the cold and coats! All I have to say to that is let’s hope winter goes by as fast as this summer did however, I doubt it will.

Bloomberg has released it’s list of the most “popular” things and on the list a few things might surprise you as they did me. For example, the most popular thing sold at a WalMart, Bananas. Or that the most popular cereal is Honey Nut Cheerios. If you would have asked me I would have thought it was just plain ole’ Cheerios or Lucky Charms. LOL The categories are endless, like the most popular dog, Labrador (glad to see my dog Max took the top spot) or the most popular potato chip, Lays. You can see the entire list here.

Not too long ago I was talking about how I have this looming week left of vacation and debating where and when to go. By the way I still haven’t decided so I am open to suggestions LOL. It did however get me to thinking is it even worth it anymore? I’m sure you’re no different than we are around here. You work hard and you’re doing so much that taking time off is difficult! First you have to work your tail off BEFORE you leave, just to be sure all the stuff you tend to is taken care of. Then you go out for a week (or so) hoping not to get any calls while you’re gone. After it’s all said and done you come back relaxed and refreshed ready to tackle the stack of work left at your door and the 100’s of e-mails waiting for you in you inbox. I ask again…isit worth it?

First off, I can hardly believe that the State Fair starts TOMORROW! In my mind that is always like a little reminder in the back of my head that Summer is quickly coming to an end. :o( Where did the time go? I didn’t even get a vacation yet this year, in looking at the calendar I have some vacation time to use up before I lose it at the beginning of October and I have no idea when (or where) I’m going to go! Decisions, decisions….looks like I better hurry up and decide! I’m open to suggestions!

I don’t cook much, it’s not that I don’t know how, I’m not good at it, or I don’t like it…it’s just that I dont have the TIME! So no time means you do what you have to sometimes for food and that (a lot of the time) for me means take out. I’ve always wondered when you get take out if you should tip? I mean most places have that little “Tip” line on your receipt just staring you in the face when you sign it. I have often wondered am I supposed to tip on take out or not? After searching the web I found a mix of opinions. Some people say you should and some say you should only if you know there was “extra effort” given to your order. What do you think?

The temperatures are rising this week and Yahoo had some unusual tips on ways to stay cool all summer long! Some were a bit stranger than others…
1. Wear lightwieght and loose cotton and linen clothing.
2. Run cold water over your wrists (and other pulse points)to help bring down your body temperature.
3. Don’t eat large meals. Instead, graze and eat more smaller meals.
4. Eat spicy foods. They help make you sweat without raising body temperatures.
This one was my favorite…
5. Put the sheets in the freezer. Bag your sheets and place them in the freezer for a few hours to help cool your bed down.
See the whole list here.

The trailer for new horror movie Paranormal Activity 2 has been pulled from cinemas in Texas because of complaints it is too scary. I don’t know that it’s all that scary - more like creepy? Some things to note when you are watching it. Toward the end there’s one part where the baby isn’t in the crib yet you can see it’s reflection in the mirror. Also, at the VERY VERY end (let it play all the way til it stops) look on the mirror. There’s something written but I couldn’t make out what it says. Can you?
Watch it here.

Don’t you hate when we have days like this. We sit indoors, look out the window and wish we could go out and play in the sunshine. It kinda reminds you of when you were in kid in school and you wanted to go out on the playground, just to be outside! I guess if you start hearing birds chirping and planes flying in the background you’ll know that I’ve moved the Mix studio outside…

It seems like every day news comes out about what we should eat or should avoid. If you try and follow all the rules and studies it would just make your head spin. I’ll admit I’m not a food Nazi but I do carefully watch what I eat, avoiding fatty foods (even though I DO love french fries I know they are the devil) and other stuff that’s bad for you. According to Eating Well magazine there are 8 New Food Rules we should follow the “experts” have come up with. How they are “new” is beyond me since most of them are common sense in my mind. Exercise, eat fewer calories and reduce your sodium intake? They all sound like the stuff we hear every day. There are a few others and you can read about all of ‘em here.

So I talked to all sorts of folks today that went to the show last night at the LC. I heard various opinions of the show (of course) but most of them seemed to be positive saying that the show was really good over all. If you were at the show let me know what you thought. I would love to hear from you!
